- Before you burn: Trim your wick. The ideal height is ¼-⅛ inches to prevent mushrooming or smoke around the glass. First burn: The first time you light, allow the entire surface of the wax to melt to prevent tunneling. As you light: Keep your candle lights from there to four hours max. Ensure the wick stays centered in the wax after you blow it out. When it’s done: When the wax gets to ~½ inch, it’s time for a new candle. Re-use the vessel: Clean out and use a vase or cosmetics holder.
