How do I check the quality of a diamond?
1 Answer

To check the quality of a diamond, look to the 4Cs. They are color, cut, clarity and carat. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has rating systems that allow you to easily assess and compare the color, cut and clarity of diamonds. Color refers to how clear the diamond looks, while cut describes how well the jeweler shaped its facets. Clarity is a measure of the number and types of imperfections present in a gem. A unit of measurement, the carat, describes its size. If you need help evaluating a diamond, a knowledgeable jeweler or appraiser can assist you. On 1stDibs, shop a large collection of diamond jewelry.
