How do you tell if a Gallé vase is real?
1 Answer

To tell if a Gallé vase is real, compare its markings to images published on trusted online resources. While most Gallé pieces do feature a maker’s mark, counterfeiters often place larger markings on their pieces than what Emile Gallé placed on his own work. In addition, the markings on replicas may be in a more prominent position, such as on the front rather than on the bottom. You can also look closely at the coloration on the vase. On a genuine Gallé, the glass itself will be colored, but on fakes, the color may be painted onto the glass. If you still have doubts about your piece's authenticity, consider consulting a certified appraiser or knowledgeable antique dealer. Explore a range of Emile Gallé vases on 1stDibs.
