What is an example of mixed media?

Mixed media artwork is a combination of materials used by the artist to create a sculpture, painting, print, etc. Sculptors can use metal and stone together. Some works on paper include different printmaking processes (i.e. screen print, monotype, collograph, relief printing) as well as drawing with pastel, charcoal, pencil, etc., including painting with various kinds of paint and other materials can be added like paper, fiber or objects. Examples of mixed media by artists can be found in the work of John Hogan. His paintings employ the use of paint, and artist crayon creating a textured and layered appearance. Melanie Yazzie creates works on paper by laying a foundational image in paint or gouache and layering screen printing, monotype, relief print, and or linocuts to the imagery and also charcoal or pencil drawing.
