What is lambethware made of?
1 Answer

What lambethware is made of is pottery. Specifically, lambethware is a type of stoneware made of vitrified pottery. Its distinctive appearance is owed to its salt glaze.
While early pieces were made by Royal Doulton, a manufacturer that started in London in 1815 but later moved to Lambeth, establishing a factory for producing stoneware, these are distinct from pieces made by Doulton Co. in Burslem. This earthenware manufacturer was originally Pinder, Bourne Co. and renamed Doulton Co. Ltd. after its acquisition in 1878 by Doulton Co., and in the 1970s made reproductions based on the older lambethware designs.
