What is quadruple silverplate?

1 Answer
Quadruple silverplate is the term for flatware, serveware and decorative objects made with a specific electroplating technique. The electroplating process begins with a base metal that an artisan then adds a layer of pure silver to. With quadruple plating, the artisan applies an extra-thick layer of silver, giving it four times the silver content of standard silverplate. Silversmiths known for producing quadruple silverplate include the Meriden Britannia Company, Reed Barton and Rogers Brothers. Find a diverse assortment of silver wares on 1stDibs.
