The history of the Dunhill watch starts with the founding of retailer Dunhill by Alfred Dunhill in 1893. During its early days, Dunhill's London store sold men's giftware and accessories produced by other makers, but it gradually began producing its own product line. By the 1920s, Dunhill had added watches to its offerings and, in the mid-20th century, had ramped up its watch production through partnerships with Swiss makers. When the quartz crisis struck, Dunhill embraced the demand for quartz watches by incorporating the technology into many of its timepieces. This change made Dunhill's sales strong throughout the 1980s and beyond. Today, Dunhill continues to offer limited edition mechanical and quartz timepieces, such as the Automatic Steel, the Royal Steel, the Slimline and the British Racing Green. An exceptional, fine and impressive, vintage 18 karat yellow gold Rollagas lighter made by Dunhill; an addition to our smoking related silverware collection. This exceptional vintage Swiss 18k gold lighter has a rectangular form with rounded corners. The surface of the vintage lighter is embellished with a two-tone gold textured woven lozenge design. The anterior surface of the hallmarked hinged cover bears a continuation of the decoration to the body and opens to reveal the lighter's eyelet. The anterior corner of the gold lighter bears a vertical cylindrical ribbed spark/flint wheel; the lighter is in working order. The underside of the lighter bears a push fit panel, allowing access for the lighter to be re-filled, and bearing the feature hallmarks. This lighter has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 18 karat gold. Such gold examples are rare to the market and highly desirable.
