1 Answer
What was the Velázquez style of painting called?
What the Velázquez style of painting was called varies. Due to the period in which he worked, many art historians classify his style of painting as Baroque. Others state that his naturalistic approach to portraying his subjects is an early example of Realism. Velázquez's work also changed over the years. His later paintings are bolder and have sharper details, and you will sometimes see this style nicknamed "manera abreviada." Shop a collection of Baroque art on 1stDibs.
