Il disegno raffigura un episodio preso dal Vangelo di Giovanni conosciuto con la locuzione latina "Noli me tangere". Riferito alla mattina della domenica successiva alla morte di Cristo, lo vede come protagonista insieme a Maria Maddalena. La frase "noli me tangere" ovvero "non toccarmi" è un invito, da parte di Gesù alla sua amica, a non voler controllare se, dopo la resurrezione, avesse un corpo in carne e ossa ma piuttosto di correre ad avvisare i discepoli dell'avvenuto miracolo.

Alfonso Boninsegni è stato un artista fiorentino attivo nel XX secolo, alla cui carriera privata unì l'insegnamento presso l'Accademia di Firenze. L'amico Sestini potrebbe essere Giorgio Sestini, un fisico e matematico che visse a Firenze durante gli stessi anni.
