Did Bendiner ever miss a performance, show, concert, play? Was there anyone he didn't know?
This double-side drawing in blue crayon shows Johnny Hodges (jazz saxophonist extraordinaire) with his combo (a base fiddle player, and drummer at the 'traps'). The group played from 1951 to 1955. Before and after that Hodges played with Duke Ellington. On the reverse is a single figure of a trumpet player (also Hodges?) and at the left a face (again, Hodges?) with a saxophone.
One side is titled and authenticated by the artist's wife, Betty Bendiner, in pencil. The reverse (where the image is up-side-down to the first) is titled in another hand, in pencil.
The dimensions, 9 x 12 1/2 inches, are for the sheet. The photos make the sheet look very transparent. It isn't quite so evident in real life.
