About the Item
Bendiner always took drawing materials with him when he traveled. And a beautiful piece of 'found' paper was never wasted. (Once in Greece on a bus trip he had to acquire paper from a local roofer, but he made it work.)
Here he has re-purposed a menu from NYC's Plaza Hotel.'s famous Oak Room. Apparently he and Mrs. Bendiner (Betty) had a wonderful time. This kind of drawing is a balance between sweet and caricature. He gets it just right; he and Betty are shown with grace and charm. I for one would loved to have joined them although they are not looking for company in the least.
The photography mades the reverse sides show through -- they don't in real life.
