About the Item
This watercolor by Asheville, NC artist Emma Clary Webb Peoples is a great example of the the artist's work.
Peoples is known for her depictions of African-American people she encounter throughout her life, living in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.
A paper attached to the back of this work states this:
'Emma Clary Webb Peoples was born in Nashville, TN. She married the head of a Tennessee boarding school, and they moved together to Asheville, NC in the late 1920s, remaining there until 1943. She was active as an artist, submitting photographs to the Nashville, Banner and exhibiting her watercolors in Asheville and Pennsylvania. She was well known for creating portraits of African American sitters she encountered throughout her life'.
This work is housed in a new frame, under UV plexiglass.
