About the Item

Preparatory equine pencil drawing by Kenneth Stevens MacIntire (1891-1979) Pencil on paper Art Sz: 8.5" x 12" Frame Sz: 14.75" x 17.75" Kenneth Stevens MacIntire (1891 - 1979) was active/lived in California, Massachusetts. Kenneth MacIntire is known for Landscape, horse genre, figure, portrait paintings. He also studied at the Fenway School of Illustration and the New School of Design. To finance his art schooling, he ran a mail boat for the Postal Service, delivering mail to the various Islands in Maine waters. He also got his first taste of the West when he went on a painting trip to the Colorado Rockies in 1922. After serving in the army in World War I, he opened a studio in Washington D.C. His work was featured on a House Beautiful magazine cover in 1920. While there he was commissioned to paint a portrait of a beloved family horse. Word spread and he was commissioned to do the same in California. Thus he moved there in 1930, first to Palm Springs, but eventually settling in Hollywood Hills. Polo playing was at the height of its popularity. His oils and watercolors captured the drama of the game and the action of the players.

Elin Siân Blake is a contemporary Brecon-based artist, originally from the South Wales valleys, whose work delves deeply into the rich tapestry of Welsh heritage. Through various mediums, she creates poignant reflections of societal and cultural issues that have shaped the Welsh identity. Born in 1981, Elin Siân Blake began producing commissioned artwork from an early age, focussing on the traditional Welsh ponies and landscapes of her childhood. She was particularly inspired by the agricultural and equestrian events she attended. As a teenager she spent all her spare money on art supplies. Blake graduated from the University of Glamorgan in 2002 with a degree in graphic design and illustration, but quickly realised that she wanted to create conventional paintings, rather than producing digital images. She then spent several years living on the road in vintage vehicles, painting the scenes and characters she encountered on her travels. Blake taught herself oil painting using library...
