Louise HERVIEU Alençon 1878 - Versailles 1954 The Magnificent Servant Circa 1925 Charcoal and black chalk Signed lower left 43 x 32 cm sheet 60 x 43 cm frame Provenance: Bernheim Jeune Gallery Exhibition, March 1925, under number 14 (see photo) Bearing a collection number on the back Very good condition Louise Hervieu is a multidisciplinary artist who works in painting, drawing, illustration, and writing. Charcoal is her medium of choice, which she works with by scraping and scratching to create contrasts between dark black, bright white, and all their respective shades. She depicts female nudes, still lifes, particularly flowers, and landscapes. In her drawings, she draws on her suffering and vulnerability, but also on her sensitivity and imagination, to convey emotions that are sometimes tragic, strange, dramatic, romantic, and always deeply lyrical.
