Transport of Dead Christ is a drawing realized by the French painter Lucien Alphonse Gros (1855-1913) in the late 19th century. The state of preservation is very good and presents only some stains on the lower left margin. The paper was applied on another sheet measuring 20 x 29.7 cm (the lower left corner is missing).
The subject of this drawing is unique: inside a church, a life-size sculptural group representing the transport and lament of the dead Christ. These statues of popular devotion, usually in wood or terracotta, are common especially in French and Italian churches of the 17th and 18th centuries.
A beautiful and interesting drawing made by an important artist testifying, with this peculiar iconography, all his draftsmanship in the rapid and immediate strokes.
