Martin Friedman (1896-1981). Two Nude Figures, ca. 1960. Charcoal on paper, image measures 17 x 22.5 inches; 24 x 30 in original custom chestnut frame and linen matting. Signed lower right. A fine art painter of abstraction, Martin Friedman was born in Hungary, and lived in Provincetown, Massachusetts from 1955 to the 1970s. He also lived in Brooklyn, New York. He was a student at the National Academy of Design. Memberships included Federal Modern Painters and Sculptors, Audubon Artists, and Woodstock Art Association. Exhibitions: Corcoran Gallery, 1935, 1939, 1947 and 1953; American Artists Congress, 1938; World's Fair, New York, 1939; Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, 1936, 1949, 1952-53; Metropolitan Museum, 1947; Nebraska Art Association, 1948-50; Toledo Museum of Art, 1947 and 1948; Carnegie Institute, 1948, 1949; Brooklyn Museum, 1950 and 1952, Babcock Gallery, 1951, 1952, National Society of Painters in Casein, and Audubon Artists, 1951, 1954 and 1955.
