About the Item
Disegno inchiostro, gesso, acquerellature e rialzi a biacca su carta collegato alla serie di studi per la decorazione della Sala di Ercole di Palazzo Pitti a Firenze.
Di mano di Pietro Benvenuti, artista toscano assunto per questa commissione prima da Elisa Baciocchi Bonaparte nel 1811 e, in seguito alla caduta del fratello Napoleone, riconfermato nel 1817 dal nuovo granduca di toscana, Ferdinando III. I lavori per la stanza durarono più di 10 anni, fino al 1829 circa.
la scena raffigura Venere inginocchiata che sta implorando suo fratello Giove, probabilmente riferimento all'episodio dall'Eneide di Virgilio in cui prega per la salvezza del figlio Enea.
Il disegno è pubblicato nella monografia sull'artista di Liletta Fornasari e proviene da una collezione molto importante, la collezione Batelli, come testimoniato dal timbro.
