Academic drawing depicting the head of an elderly man with a long beard, shown in profile and constructed with a strong sense of volume and chiaroscuro. The grave and concentrated expression, together with the monumental character of the face, recalls the traditional iconography of biblical prophets, probably Moses, without a certain identification.
This type of study belonged to 19th-century academic practice, closely linked to history painting and sacred subjects, and was based on the copying and interpretation of established models.
The sheet comes from folders of drawings preserved in an old Tuscan property, bringing together studies made by several generations between the 18th century and the first quarter of the 20th century.
Antique paper with folds and small tears along the edges, not affecting the central part of the drawing.
