William Henry Detlef Koerner: 1878-1938. Well listed American painter and illustrator. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League in NY under Howard Pyle. He has auction results over $255,000. He is known for his Western and Indian themed paintings and illustrations for books from authors like Zane Grey. This is a mixed media of charcoal, gouache and watercolor. It shows some men planning what looks to be a sneak attack on some Indians. From the writing on reverse it must have been used for some kind of illustration in a book or magazine. Art measures 14 inches wide by 11 high. Matte measures 20 by 16. It is unframed.

An impressionistic, antique landscape painting depicting the rugged coastal beauty of Race Point Beach, Massechusets. The rocky coastline and rushing waves are rendered in luminous shades of pink, turquoise, blue, green, indigo, and purple. The painting is executed in oil on board and measures 14 x 16 inches. It is attractively framed and ready to hang in a dark brown frame with a decorative motif. This piece was purchased by our gallery directly from the daughter of W. H. D. Koerner (1878 - 1938).
