About the Item

Fu’una’s “Jellyfish Dream” is a contemporary pastel of two jellyfish swimming among two hibiscus flowers. They are painted in red monochrome, floating in black space. It was inspired by a dream the artist had about swimming in a pool of glowing jellyfish. Curving red lines in the background suggest a flow of movement. This 9 x 12 inch pastel on archival sanded paper is unframed and unmounted. It is signed in the lower right corner. Fu’una (Kameko Branchaud) is a representational artist working in paint, pastel, and murals. Her work centers human and animal subjects and often draws from her experience as an American woman of indigenous Chamuru heritage. Her work attempts to process the polarity of indigenous and diasporic identity, and the interrelated influences of history, power, and heritage on the environment and the psyche. Her pop-realism style draws upon Fauvism, street art, and tattoo culture. Her recognizable palette is indulgent in its vividness and satisfyingly sensory. She has lived in five regions of America and uses photography, drawing, and research to connect with her surroundings.

Sandra Cohen’s “when we arrive in the middle of nowhere” is a 12 x 12 x .25 inch acrylic painting on tempered hardboard, in green, blue, pink, red, orange, and white. Abstracted wild flowers and greenery wave under a blue springtime sky, where a tiny plane is landing. A circular pattern of arrows moving in opposite directions is overlaid in white and intertwines with itself and the fine red lines that grow like stems outward from its unseen center. Inspired by the song “Autopilot” by Queens of the...
