About the Item
Mid-century landscape watercolor of figures on a beautiful beach in Indonesia, and early work by Sufi artist Amang Rahman Jubair (Indonesian, 1931-2001). Four tall palm trees tower over the sandy beach, where figures stroll among small fishing boats and a small thatched structure. The blue water stretches along the horizon with mountains in the distance.
Signed "A. J. Rahman" lower left.
Malaysian framing tag on verso with a variant of the artist's name, Abdul Rahman.
Displayed in a new mat and original white and black painted wood frame with glass.
Image size: 10.5"H x 14"W.
Amang Rahman Jubair was born in Surabaya, E. Java in 1931. Amang Rahman was active as an artist in Indonesia and India. He was a Sufi and often used mystic Sufi symbolism in his later works. He died in 2001.
The artist is known as several variants of his name which including; Amang Rahman, Amang Rachman Jubair, Abdul Rahman Jubair, Abdul Rahman, Haji Amang Rahman.
