Signed lower right, 'Elva Senter' (American, 1891-1973) and painted circa 1975; additionally inscribed verso.
Born in Callao, Missouri, Elva Senter moved to Oklahoma with her family at the age of seven. In 1930, she moved to Columbia, CA and began painting landscapes of the Mother Lode and surrounding areas. She settled in Palo Alto in 1958, where she continued to paint and exhibit with success. Elva Senter was a member of the Palo Alto Art Club and is listed in Edan Hughes definitive reference work, "Artists in California, 1786-1940".
