St. Peter's Basilica from the Edge of the City - Roman Lansdcape
Lush watercolor of a sunset behind St. Peter's Basilica by Gaetano Facciola (Italian, 1868-1949). From a road at the edge of town, the viewer is treated to a lovely view of the sunset beyond St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. To the right side of the painting is an old city wall, with several trees beyond it. The viewpoint is in the center of the road, drawing the viewer's eye into the background, towards the basilica and sunset.
Signed "G. Facciola" in the lower left corner.
Presented in a wood frame with a double mat.

Frame size: 10.75"H x 18.75"W
Gaetano Facciola was born in Italy in 1868 and painted primarily Roman scenes, generally with important landmarks. It appears that Facciola only painted in watercolor. Facciola died in Paris, France in 1949.
