This atmospheric modernist still life gouache by French artist Guy Nicod (1923–2021) presents a carefully constructed table arrangement that balances structure with painterly spontaneity. A series of bowls filled with fruit, bottles, dishes, and a jug are placed across two levels of draped cloth, rendered in a palette dominated by muted blues, greys, violets, and warm earthy tones. Nicod’s confident use of gouache on paper allows for both translucent washes and bold, opaque passages.
