French Impressionist watercolour on paper view of a church by Henri Clamen. The painting is unsigned but was acquired from the artists atelier with other signed works.
A charming view of an imposing church in its surroundings. The tall tower with its belfry, the buttresses to the front and sides of the building contrasting with the decorative brickwork and arches to the windows. The church is surrounded by lush green foliage and just visible the decorative wrought iron crosses. In the distance the cottages with their tiled rooves under the moody sky. The artist has created a wonderful perspective. Clamen's light, free, impressionist style and his use of colour gives a vivacity and movement to the composition. A little jewel of a painting.
