French Impressionist watercolour on paper view of a canal scene by Henri Clamen. There is a location annotation to the back of the paper. The painting is not signed but was acquired with other signed works direct from the artists atelier.
A charming view of a canal meandering through a wooded landscape. The artist has created a wonderful perspective taking us into the scene and the landscape beyond. Clamen's light, free, impressionist style and his use of colour gives a vivacity and movement to the composition. A little jewel of a painting.
This waterway is part of the Canal Seine-Nord Europe, which connects Cléry-sur-Somme, Biaches, and Péronne in France.

A fresh and charming view of trees in a landscape. Decaux has used simple, fluid but strong strokes for this composition. One can feel the influence of 'abstraction of form' that was a part of his later work. The eye is drawn from the trees to the surrounding fields, the touches of colour to the right and then to the silhouette of the hills beyond. The use of watercolour at its best.
