This carefully curated set of four miniature watercolors by Jack Grunwell brings together a series of iconic Bristol landmarks—two churches, a university building, and a harbor scene—all executed in his signature muted tones and charmingly nostalgic style.
St Stephen’s
All Saints from the Harbour – This atmospheric view captures the Bristol harbourside, featuring tall ships docked along the quay with St Stephen’s Church and All Saints spire forming the skyline. The blend of ecclesiastical architecture and maritime detail perfectly reflects Bristol’s dual legacy as a port and spiritual center.
St Mary Redcliffe Church – Widely regarded as one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in England, this Grade I listed parish church has stood since the 12th century. Queen Elizabeth I famously called it “the fairest, goodliest, and most famous parish church in England.” Grunwell’s depiction includes period figures and lush greenery that heighten its grandeur.
University of Bristol, Victoria Rooms – The neoclassical Victoria Rooms house part of the university’s music and performance departments. Built in 1842, the building features a dramatic portico and formal gardens, here shown with detailed railings, statues, and elegant perspective.
