A profusion of autumn-tinged, California flora is shown growing beside the lush banks of a forest stream.
Born in California, James March Phillips first studied in San Francisco at the Jean Turner Art Academy and, later, under Alfred Owles and J. Paget Fredricks. Essentially a lyrical realist, Phillips attempted to portray subjects in their true form and color. An avid outdoorsman, he painted many watercolor landscapes of the Monterey Peninsula, with his paintings of Pebble Beach Golf Links and Cypress Point Club finding particular favor. Phillips exhibited widely and with success and his paintings are held in collections across the United States.
