John Robert Keitley Duff began his working life as a barrister but by his thirties was committed to the path of artist. He studied art at the Slade School under Alphonse Legros. A painter in oil, watercolour and pastel and an etcher, often featuring birds and animals in his work. Duff exhibited at the Royal Academy 1891-1925 and with the New English Art Club from 1894 and was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 1913 and of the Royal Society of Etchers in 1919. He exhibited at the Ipswich Fine Art Club from 100 Sunningdale Road, Hendon, London in 1923, a mezzotint 'The Rickyard'. Shortly before his death he donated a quantity of his watercolours, NW. 4, pastels, etchings, and enamels to the Southwold Museum in Suffolk and others to Hendon Central Library.
