About the Item

Fantastical and otherworldly, this bustling cityscape by Patrick Fitzgerald is a continuation of the imaginative world he calls his "Neighborhood of Infinity." Lending narrative context to his soap-box car sculptures, the illustration depicts an alternate reality populated by his cars, their drivers and their sponsors. A feast for the eyes, the intricate drawing provides the viewer with "a portal through which one can enter their world. Just for fun." Modeled after the Ginza district in Tokyo, the imagined city is predicts an inevitable future, wherein the manufacture and export of his gravity-powered cars is outsourced from America's rust belt to urban Japan. Like the soap-box cars themselves, this vision of Tokyo exists in both the past and the present, a city at once retro and modern. Inspired by Tokyo of the 1960s and 70s, the crowded skyline is alive with loud billboards and neon signs, flashing satellite towers, and industrial scaffolding.
