Description: A vibrant and spontaneous autumnal landscape by Pierre Neveu (b.1929), painted in fluid washes of violet, green, gold, and indigo. The composition reveals a garden view edged by trees, with sunlight glancing off a distant wall or greenhouse. Neveu’s confident brushwork and limited use of pencil give the piece its immediacy — a fleeting impression of light caught before it changes.
The artist’s training in architectural precision subtly underpins his looser natural studies. Here, line yields to rhythm: the transparent layering of pigment evokes both the dappled canopy and the shifting autumn air. There’s a quiet poetry in the way Neveu allows structure to dissolve into colour, turning the landscape into a sensory experience rather than a fixed depiction.
Stamped “Champs Élysées par Pierre Neveu”, this work comes from the artist’s personal studio collection. Neveu trained at the École Boulle and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, later becoming Professor of Drawing for the City of Paris and recipient of the Gold Medal of the Salon des Artistes Français in 1994.
A superb example of Neveu’s more intimate and painterly side — alive with texture, gesture, and the unmistakable glow of autumn light in the French countryside.

Pierre Neveu
Pierre Neveu was born in Paris. He was a professor of Drawing. Some of his exhibits include Invite d'honneur, Salon de Margency (1998); Nolan-Rankin Galleries Houston, Texas (1997); Kulturklub des Europäischen Patentamt Munich (1987); Beernau Foret-Noir (1985); and Marie de Tour-sur-Marne, Champagne (1983).
