Description: This expressive autumn landscape by French Post Impressionist painter Pierre Neveu captures the warmth and luminosity of a tree-lined lake in full seasonal colour. Using a loose, fluid technique, Neveu layers transparent washes of golden yellow, burnt orange and mossy green to evoke the dense canopy of autumn foliage. The trees rise in a rhythmic pattern behind a small lakeside house, its pale façade and windows sharply contrasted against the surrounding blaze of colour.
In the lower half of the composition, the water becomes a mirror, reflecting the warm tones above with streaks of ochre, amber and soft blue. Neveu’s wet-in-wet handling allows pigments to bloom and merge, creating a sense of movement across the lake’s surface. The reflections are not literal but impressionistic, capturing the shimmer of light and the gentle distortion of forms in water.
