Description: This evocative watercolour depicts a hillside view in the Provençal village of Buoux, looking across terracotta rooftops toward the sweeping valley beyond. The composition is anchored by the warm, sloping roofs in the foreground, while leafless trees and layered green hills guide the eye toward a pale, winding river cutting through the landscape in the distance.
Pierre Neveu combines loose, expressive ink line with fluid watercolour washes to convey both structure and atmosphere. The rooftops are defined with confident linear strokes, while the surrounding hills dissolve into layered greens and muted blues, creating depth and a strong sense of distance. The contrast between the solid village architecture and the expansive natural landscape is a recurring theme in Neveu’s Provençal work.
