Description: This original watercolour depicts a hillside street scene in Buoux, a historic Provençal village set within the Luberon region, and is signed and inscribed by Pierre Neveu.
The composition leads the viewer along a gently curving cobbled lane in the foreground, bordered by rustic stone walls and shaded façades. To the left, tall village buildings rise close to the street, their muted ochre and brown washes suggesting sun-warmed plaster and age-softened stone. In contrast, the hillside beyond opens into a luminous green slope dotted with pale houses and slender cypress trees, climbing toward the sky.
Neveu’s confident ink line defines architectural structure while loose, transparent washes create depth and atmosphere. The sky is rendered in soft blues with subtle cloud forms, lending lightness and space to the composition. The balance between enclosure and openness gives the scene a strong sense of place and movement, characteristic of Neveu’s Provençal village studies.
The inscription “Buoux” confirms the location, adding documentary interest for collectors. This work exemplifies Neveu’s ability to capture the quiet geometry and lived-in character of southern French villages with economy and expression.
