Description: A vibrant and expressive composition by Pierre Neveu (b.1929), Cello and Violin Duet captures the emotional intensity and kinetic grace of live performance. With bold strokes of ink and saturated washes of crimson, yellow, and black, Neveu translates musical rhythm into visual form.
The scene focuses on two musicians — a cellist and a violinist — absorbed in their instruments under the warm glow of stage lighting. The figures are articulated with confident, gestural lines, evoking the pulse and concentration of the moment. The dramatic red and yellow backdrop creates a sense of movement and theatre, heightening the sense of musical dialogue between the players.
Neveu’s characteristic balance between structure and spontaneity is on full display. Trained at the École Boulle and École des Beaux-Arts, he combined the precision of architectural drawing with the freedom of expressionist colour. Later appointed Professor of Drawing for the City of Paris, and a regular exhibitor at the Salon d’Automne and Salon des Artistes Français, Neveu’s work bridges the rigour of classical technique with the immediacy of modern life.

Pierre Neveu was born in Paris. He was a professor of Drawing. Some of his exhibits include Invite d'honneur, Salon de Margency (1998); Nolan-Rankin Galleries Houston, Texas (1997); Kulturklub des Europäischen Patentamt Munich (1987); Beernau Foret-Noir (1985); and Marie de Tour-sur-Marne, Champagne (1983).
