Description: A luminous watercolour of Cucuron, a historic village in Provence, painted by Pierre Neveu (b.1929). The scene captures a quiet sunlit alley with terraced white façades, ascending steps, and climbing foliage under a brilliant cobalt sky. Through deft washes and linear precision, Neveu evokes the stillness and heat of the Provençal afternoon, balancing structure and atmosphere with extraordinary economy.
Neveu’s architectural background is evident in his measured perspective and confident draughtsmanship, yet his touch remains fluid and intuitive. The stark interplay between light and shade across the façades creates a rhythmic abstraction, recalling the timeless charm of southern French hill towns. Stamped “Champs Élysées par Pierre Neveu”, this work forms part of the artist’s studio collection. Trained at the École Boulle and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Neveu later became Professor of Drawing for the City of Paris, and exhibited widely across France, receiving the Gold Medal of the Salon des Artistes Français in 1994.

Pierre Neveu was born in Paris. He was a professor of Drawing. Some of his exhibits include Invite d'honneur, Salon de Margency (1998); Nolan-Rankin Galleries Houston, Texas (1997); Kulturklub des Europäischen Patentamt Munich (1987); Beernau Foret-Noir (1985); and Marie de Tour-sur-Marne, Champagne (1983).
