Description: In this refined and rhythmic study, Pierre Neveu (b.1929) turns his keen draughtsman’s eye toward the intimate world of chamber music. Double Bass and Cello Duet captures two performers in elegant concert attire, absorbed in their instruments with quiet intensity.
Neveu’s mastery of gesture and composition is immediately evident — the angular tension of the bass contrasts beautifully with the rounded contour of the cello, united through the shared axis of the music stand. Sparse ink outlines and carefully restrained washes of ochre, sienna, and black create a sense of movement through minimal means. Pierre Neveu was born in Paris. He was a professor of Drawing.
