Title: Expansive French Countryside with Distant Horizon Watercolour by Pierre Neveu
Artist: Pierre Neveu (French b.1929)
Medium: Watercolour on artist paper, unframed
Size (H x W): 6 x 8.75 inches

Provenance: From the artist’s studio sale in France; all works by this artist in our collection originate from the artist’s estate.
Description: An expansive and atmospheric landscape study by Pierre Neveu (b.1929), capturing the vastness of the French countryside in gestural washes of green, violet, and blue. Viewed from an elevated perspective, the painting traces cultivated fields and woodland stretching toward a faint horizon dotted with distant spires — perhaps a church or rural settlement — beneath a pale, tranquil sky.
This work exemplifies Neveu’s sensitivity to structure and spatial rhythm, with its clear linear composition and expressive handling of tone. The artist employs transparent layers of watercolour and precise graphite underdrawing to balance abstraction and observation, evoking the breadth and quiet solitude of rural France.
Stamped “Champs Élysées par Pierre Neveu”, the piece originates from the artist’s studio collection. Neveu trained at the École Boulle and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, later serving as Professor of Drawing for the City of Paris and exhibiting extensively in the French Salons, earning the Gold Medal of the Salon des Artistes Français in 1994.
This serene and meditative composition demonstrates Neveu’s gift for capturing the geometry and poetry of the land — a luminous study of atmosphere, space, and the enduring beauty of the French landscape.

Trees in a French Country Landscape. Watercolor.
Located in Cotignac, FR
A French watercolour on paper landscape by Roger Decaux. The work is signed and dated (as yet undeciphered) bottom right. Presented in a wood frame with cut card mount.
A fresh and charming view of trees in a landscape. Decaux has used simple, fluid but strong strokes for this composition. One can feel the influence of 'abstraction of form' that was a part of his later work. The eye is drawn from the trees to the surrounding fields, the touches of colour to the right and then to the silhouette of the hills beyond. The use of watercolour at its best.
Roger DECAUX was born in 1919 in Dombasle sur Meurthe in the Lorraine. He studied art in Paris with Gino Severini and Jan Brusselmans...
