Description: This elegant harbour scene by Pierre Neveu (b.1929) captures the timeless charm of the French Atlantic coast, likely along the Brittany shoreline where the artist often worked en plein air. The composition shows a tranquil inlet lined with small sailing boats, their reflections shimmering in calm turquoise water beneath a dappled sky. Whitewashed houses cluster along the distant quay, framed by rocky banks and trees that reveal Neveu’s characteristic sense of rhythm and light.
Executed with the artist’s signature combination of fluid watercolour and fine ink line, the work balances precision with spontaneity. Pierre Neveu trained at the École Boulle and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, later becoming Professor of Drawing for the City of Paris. A regular exhibitor at the Salon d’Automne and Salon des Artistes Français, he was awarded the Gold Medal in 1994.
