Description: A luminous and fluid depiction of a quiet French harbour by Pierre Neveu (b.1929), distinguished by its crystalline palette and plein-air immediacy. The composition places the viewer at the edge of a rocky embankment, looking across a sheltered inlet lined with whitewashed houses and a flotilla of anchored yachts. Neveu’s confident brushwork captures the gentle undulation of water and the rhythmic repetition of hulls, masts, and reflections under the bright coastal light.
The artist’s sensitivity to atmosphere and geography evokes the Breton coastline, particularly the harbours of Morbihan or Finistère, where the sea meets verdant hills and granite cliffs. Rendered in translucent blues and earthy browns, the scene conveys the stillness of an afternoon tide at rest, balanced by the energetic gesture of the foreground rocks.
Bearing the printed studio mark “Champs Élysées par Pierre Neveu”, this work originates from Neveu’s professional archive. A graduate of the École Boulle and École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Neveu later became Professor of Drawing for the City of Paris and exhibited widely, receiving the Gold Medal of the Salon des Artistes Français in 1994.

Pierre Neveu
Pierre Neveu was born in Paris. He was a professor of Drawing. Some of his exhibits include Invite d'honneur, Salon de Margency (1998); Nolan-Rankin Galleries Houston, Texas (1997); Kulturklub des Europäischen Patentamt Munich (1987); Beernau Foret-Noir (1985); and Marie de Tour-sur-Marne, Champagne (1983).
