Description: A radiant mid-century landscape of Forcalquier, a historic hilltop town in Provence, by Pierre Neveu (French, b. 1929). Captured from an elevated viewpoint, the composition looks down over terracotta rooftops, narrow lanes, and the surrounding countryside beneath a cobalt Provençal sky.
Neveu’s expressive washes of indigo and sienna evoke the warmth and rhythm of southern France, balanced by deft architectural draughtsmanship. His background as an architect and educator — trained at the École Boulle and later Professor of Drawing for the City of Paris — is evident in his structural clarity and compositional restraint.
A fine example of French postwar plein air painting, rich with atmosphere and light.

Pierre Neveu
Pierre Neveu was born in Paris. He was a professor of Drawing. Some of his exhibits include Invite d'honneur, Salon de Margency (1998); Nolan-Rankin Galleries Houston, Texas (1997); Kulturklub des Europäischen Patentamt Munich (1987); Beernau Foret-Noir (1985); and Marie de Tour-sur-Marne, Champagne (1983).
