Description: A luminous coastal harbour scene by Pierre Neveu (b.1929), depicting a tranquil French seaside town with moored sailboats and a distinctive white lighthouse rising above the shoreline. Though unsigned, the work bears Neveu’s printed stamp “Champs Élysées par Pierre Neveu” along the right margin, confirming authorship. The setting is typical of the Brittany coastline, possibly near the Morbihan or Loire-Atlantique regions where the artist often painted.
The composition captures a radiant midday atmosphere with remarkable economy of means. Neveu uses fluid washes of turquoise, ochre, and cobalt blue, overlayed with delicate ink structure to suggest the rhythm of masts and rooftops. The interplay between built forms and reflected water conveys both motion and calm — a hallmark of Neveu’s plein air technique. His confident brushwork, alternating between transparency and density, evokes a scene bathed in clear Atlantic light.
Pierre Neveu trained at the École Boulle and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, later becoming Professor of Drawing for the City of Paris. He exhibited at the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Artistes Français, receiving the Gold Medal in 1994.

Pierre Neveu was born in Paris. He was a professor of Drawing.
