Description: This charming French rural landscape is an original watercolour by the well-listed Post-Impressionist painter Pierre Neveu (French b. 1929), depicting a small countryside chapel or farmhouse set within a hilly, Mediterranean-style landscape. The whitewashed stone building, topped with warm terracotta roof tiles and a modest bell tower, evokes the vernacular architecture of southern France, particularly regions such as Provence or the rural foothills of the Alps.
Neveu’s confident line work outlines the structure with architectural clarity, while loose, expressive washes bring life to the surrounding vegetation and rolling hills. Olive greens, earthy ochres, and soft slate blues are layered fluidly, creating a sense of depth and atmosphere without overworking detail.
