Description: A charming watercolour by Pierre Neveu depicting the riverside town of Henley-on-Thames, its Georgian houses rendered in soft pastel tones and framed by a bare winter tree in the foreground. The composition conveys the quiet poise of an English street scene — sunlight filtering through branches, reflected on slate rooftops and painted shutters. Neveu’s expressive yet economical brushwork reveals his training as both draughtsman and painter: every loose wash and ink line balances structure with freedom. His Post-Impressionist sensibility translates beautifully to this British setting, merging the architectural discipline of his Paris education with the airy spontaneity of plein-air watercolour. The palette — sage greens, umber, coral red, and pale sky blue — perfectly captures the freshness of a mild spring morning. Pierre Neveu (b.1929) studied at the École Boulle and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris before becoming Professor of Drawing for the City of Paris. Pierre Neveu was born in Paris. He was a professor of Drawing. Some of his exhibits include Invite d'honneur, Salon de Margency (1998); Nolan-Rankin Galleries Houston, Texas (1997); Kulturklub des Europäischen Patentamt Munich (1987); Beernau Foret-Noir (1985); and Marie de Tour-sur-Marne, Champagne (1983).
