Description: A radiant and finely balanced French landscape watercolour by Pierre Neveu (b.1929), inscribed de la Ferme des Sables (“from the Farm of Sands”). The composition captures a tranquil rural farmstead beneath a vivid blue sky, its ochre walls and terracotta roofs glowing warmly in the afternoon light. The whitewashed courtyard walls and verdant foliage in the foreground create a gentle rhythm of colour and texture, characteristic of Neveu’s sensitive handling of light and form.
The title likely references a real location — La Ferme des Sables — possibly situated near France’s Atlantic coast, where Neveu often painted open farmland and sunlit villages. The artist’s palette here is both rich and restrained, layering transparent washes of pigment to evoke warmth and calm. Fine ink work defines the structure of the buildings and the movement of wild grasses, bringing precision to an otherwise fluid composition.
Pierre Neveu trained at the École Boulle and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, later serving as Professor of Drawing for the City of Paris. He exhibited at the Salon d’Automne and Salon des Artistes Français, where he received the Gold Medal in 1994.
