Description: A striking French modernist landscape watercolour by Pierre Neveu (French, b. 1929), capturing a sunlit lakeside scene beneath a dramatic mountain range. The composition evokes the luminous tranquillity of southern Europe — possibly the shores of Lake Annecy or Lake Geneva — with shimmering blue waters extending into the distance beneath a vast, cloudless sky.
Neveu’s confident handling of watercolour wash and line creates a compelling balance between structure and spontaneity. The earthy, textured slopes of the mountains rise steeply from the lake’s edge, their rugged forms softened by the artist’s loose, transparent layers of paint.
