Description: A lyrical and atmospheric view of Loch Lomond in the Scottish Highlands, painted by Pierre Neveu (b.1929). This expressive watercolour captures the tranquil expanse of the loch, framed by mist-shrouded peaks and subtle reflections on shifting water. The composition is both minimal and dynamic, balancing loose gestural washes with Neveu’s characteristically deft linear underdrawing.
Though primarily associated with the French landscape, Neveu occasionally travelled north, and this study reveals his fascination with the changing light and rugged topography of Scotland. The mountain’s muted violets and greens contrast beautifully with the silvery greys of the loch, while the inclusion of a solitary sailing boat adds a note of scale and quiet human presence.
Stamped “Champs Élysées par Pierre Neveu”, this piece originates from the artist’s own studio collection. A graduate of the École Boulle and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Neveu later became Professor of Drawing for the City of Paris, and was awarded the Gold Medal of the Salon des Artistes Français in 1994.
This delicate yet commanding work stands as a superb example of Neveu’s international scope and technical mastery — a meeting of French artistry and Highland atmosphere, rendered with luminous restraint.

Pierre Neveu was born in Paris. He was a professor of Drawing. Some of his exhibits include Invite d'honneur, Salon de Margency (1998); Nolan-Rankin Galleries Houston, Texas (1997); Kulturklub des Europäischen Patentamt Munich (1987); Beernau Foret-Noir (1985); and Marie de Tour-sur-Marne, Champagne (1983).
