Description: A luminous Mediterranean landscape by Pierre Neveu (b.1929), depicting a sunlit coastal town with a domed church at its centre. The work’s crisp architectural structure and deep, layered colour washes typify Neveu’s mastery of balance between geometry and atmosphere.
The composition draws the eye from the tranquil blue waters in the foreground toward the ochre façades and terracotta roofs of hillside buildings. Ink outlines and subtle perspective lines reveal the artist’s architectural training, while transparent veils of blue and green convey the heat-hazed depth of the surrounding hills. The prominent church — rendered in warm yellows and whites — anchors the scene, standing as both focal point and tonal centre.
A graduate of the École Boulle and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Neveu received the Gold Medal at the Salon des Artistes Français (1994). His works often merge the precision of design with the expressive looseness of plein-air practice, celebrating the spirit of southern France and the Riviera through light, shadow, and proportion.
