Description: This luminescent study by Pierre Neveu captures a sun-washed Mediterranean landscape where white houses nestle among trees overlooking a glittering sea. Neveu’s expressive gouache technique creates soft transitions of tone that evoke heat and distance. His palette of turquoise, sand, and ochre perfectly conveys the southern light that has long drawn painters to the Côte d’Azur and Provence.
Trained at the École Boulle and École des Beaux-Arts, Neveu brought architectural discipline to his modernist colour studies. This balance of structure and freedom defines his work: foreground trees frame the composition while transparent washes suggest breeze and movement. Likely painted during his travels in southern France, the scene recalls the intimate charm of Mediterranean villages.

Pierre Neveu was born in Paris. He was a professor of Drawing.
