Description: A luminous architectural study by French Post Impressionist painter Pierre Neveu, this watercolour captures the atmosphere of a sun-soaked Mediterranean village. At the centre of the composition rises a warm ochre church tower, its form outlined delicately against a deep cobalt sky. The surrounding whitewashed buildings are suggested with loose washes and quick linear marks, giving the scene an immediacy characteristic of plein air sketching.
The lower portion of the study shows bold notes of shadow in deep violet and blue, evoking the strong midday contrast found in southern European towns. To the right, a small plant pot overflowing with green foliage adds a lively and intimate detail, anchoring the composition and hinting at daily life behind the architecture. The unfinished expanses of paper reveal Neveu’s working method: capturing light, shape, and atmosphere swiftly before refining structure.
